Cheney, Wash. – Redshirt senior women's basketball student-athlete Hayley Hodgins and redshirt senior men's basketball student-athlete Austin McBroom have been selected by the Eastern Washington University Athletics Department as its December Scholar-Athletes of the Month, as announced Tuesday, Jan. 5.

A Pasco, Wash., native, Hodgins owns a 3.73 grade point average and is pursuing a master's degree in health services administration. McBroom hails from Los Angeles, Calif., and sports a 3.92 GPA while working to obtain his master's degree in communication studies.

Hodgins, who earned her bachelor's degree in public health last year, led the EWU women's basketball program to some impressive victories in December, including true road wins at Cal State Fullerton and Wichita State. She finished the month with four 20-point games, including a season-high 27-point effort against Boise State on Dec. 21. A prolific three-point shooter, she set a new career high with seven made triples against CSUF on Dec. 13. For the month, she shot 50.0 percent from the field (45-90) and 48.7 percent from three-point range (19-39).

McBroom, a 2015 graduate of Saint Louis with a bachelor's degree in communication studies, scored in double-figures in all six games in which he appeared in December, averaging 21.8 points per game. He played an integral role in the Eagles' road wins at San Francisco and Denver, going for 19 points and five assists against USF and 18 points and four assists versus Denver. He set a season high with 33 points against Davidson on Dec. 9, then notched 29 points versus Western Carolina on Dec. 14. He shot 63.2 percent from the field versus Davidson (12-19) and drained a season-best seven three-pointers against WCU.
