Cheney, Wash. – Redshirt junior women’s basketball student-athlete Hayley Hodgins and junior men’s basketball student-athlete Venky Jois have been selected by the Eastern Washington University Athletics Department as its March Scholar-Athletes of the Month, the department announced Tuesday, Mar. 17.
A Pasco, Wash., native, Hodgins owns a 3.8 grade point average and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in public health administration after getting her bachelor’s degree in the same program last June. Jois hails from Boronia, Australia, and sports a 3.5 GPA as a pre-med major.
Hodgins helped the EWU women’s basketball team to a six-game winning streak in the month of February including wins over eventual Big Sky Conference regular season champion Montana and runner-up Sacramento State. She scored in double figures in every game in February, including 27 points in EWU’s win over the Hornets, as well as a pair of 22-point efforts.
Jois helped Eastern Men’s Basketball to key road wins over Montana and Southern Utah last month and scored at least 20 points twice, including 27 in the Eagles’ home win over Montana State on Feb. 26.
