Eastern wraps up its season in Texas as no Eagles will advance to the NCAA Championships
The Eastern Washington University track and field team competed at the third and final day of the NCAA West Preliminary Round Saturday (May 30) at Mike A. Meyers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
"Overall, I feel like it was a rough meet for Eastern," said head women's coach Marcia Mecklenburg. "We still had some quality performances from some of the athletes."
Senior Morena Mannucci concluded her successful season with a leap of 40-6 in the triple jump to place 33rd overall, tying her second-best jump this season.
"What a great way for Morena to go out," said Mecklenburg. "I am really thrilled with her senior year, I couldn't be happier for her. It was a great way to end her career here."
In the javelin, Samantha Baker had near personal best of 145-0 to place 30th in the field. The sophomore entered today's competition ranked 39th.
"Our youngster ended up finishing a lot higher than what she came in ranked," said Mecklenburg. "I am very pleased with her performance."
Senior Emma Murillo also wrapped up her collegiate career in the javelin with a throw of 141-9.
"I know this was very hard for Emma, as she hoped this wouldn't have been her final meet. It did not go the way she wanted, but what a great career she had at Eastern," said Mecklenburg. "Hopefully she will remember all of the amazing things she did for us. She's all over the record books and she will be really missed at Eastern. It was a rough one, but I am very thankful she chose to come here and compete."
The NCAA West Preliminary Round closed the 2014-15 campaign for the Eagles.
