Head coach Jim Hayford and student-athlete Bogdan Bliznyuk recognized by the Washington House of Representatives and Senate
The Eastern Washington University men’s basketball team and its record-breaking 2014-15 season were recently recognized with a formal resolution honoring their achievements by the Washington House of Representatives, led by Rep. Kevin Parker, and with a speech on the Senate floor led by Sen. Michael Baumgartner.
Eastern head coach Jim Hayford and student-athlete Bogden Bliznyuk were recognized on April 16 at the State Capitol in Olympia, Wash., and accepted a copy of the resolution on behalf of EWU.
Hayford and Bliznyuk, a freshman this past season from Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way, Wash., met and posed for pictures with Governor Jay Inslee and Rep. Marcus Riccelli (Spokane), as well as Parker and Baumgartner.
The Eagles closed the year 26-9 on the season after finishing 14-4 in the Big Sky Conference to share the regular season title with Montana. Eastern swept through three games in the Big Sky Conference Tournament to garner the school's second NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. The Eagles finished with program bests for victories overall (26), in the Big Sky (14), on the road (11) and in non-conference play (9) in 32 seasons as a member of NCAA Division I.
Bliznyuk was the league's Freshman of the Year and averaged 8.7 points and 4.0 rebounds. In all, 18 school records and one Big Sky mark were broken in the 2014-15 season, thanks to a productive offense that ranked third in NCAA Division I with an average of 80.6 points per game and fifth in 3-pointers per game with a 9.8 average.
