Men’s Tennis Debuts at Home with Double Header in Cheney

The Eastern Washington men's tennis team will play in its home opener this coming weekend with a double header against both Whitworth and Spokane Community College on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectively.

The first 50 fans to attend the double header on Saturday, will also receive free pizza.

The day will feature opportunities to win prizes, Taco Bell Taco coupons, and free clinics taught by EWU head coach Steve Clark. Fans will also have the chance to see the revamped indoor tennis facility at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. Swoop will also be available throughout for photo opportunities for Eagle fans.

All clinics and prizes will happen during the first match of the day and shortly after.

This year's matches feature an updated NCAA collegiate tennis format which consists of no AD, no warmup with opponent, and a new sudden death system.

Eastern (0-4) recently faced a tough Washington team on Saturday, Jan. 31, in Seattle, where the Eagles were able to challenge the Huskies throughout the afternoon, particularly in doubles. Freshman Vuk Vuckovic and sophomore Luke Thompson earned EWU's only win of the day in the second doubles position over the Huskies' pairing of Borra and Douglas (6-4).

The Eagles have an all-time record of 16-9 against Whitworth, with Eastern picking up the last 13 matches. Additionally, EWU is 10-1 when facing Spokane Community College with the last meeting between the two schools taking place on Apr. 6, 1993, in Spokane, Wash.
