Cheney, Wash. – Battling unseasonably windy weather, junior Eduardo Bringold and sophomore Robert Dula had superb performances as the Eastern Washington University men's tennis team defeated North Dakota, 7-0, and fell to Montana, 5-2, on Friday, Apr. 10, and Sunday, Apr. 12, respectively.
Dula, playing in the number one position in both matches, was able to earn two solid singles wins over the Grizzlies and UND, definitively topping Dustin Britton 6-1,6-1, and Tomasz Soltyka, 6-2, 6-1. Bringold had an equally stellar weekend, earning wins in the fifth position over Ty Misialek, 6-0, 6-4, and Alexander Rudenco, 6-0, 6-4..
Against UM, Bringold and sophomore Luke Ness grabbed EWU's only doubles victory of the afternoon, defeating Casadevall and Rudenco, 7-6(3),
"It was a challenging day overall against Montana. We had 'arctic' like weather during the match, with some serious wind," said head coach Steve Clark, "We had some great drama and performance in the doubles portion, after winning at three and extending the first position to a tiebreaker. In singles, Dula was able to defeat Soltyka, a player he lost to in the fall. Overall there were some close games and matches all around. After today, we are working on preparing now for Idaho. Also, I wanted to give a big thank you to the fans that came out today and braved the elements."
With only one match remaining on this year's schedule, the Eagles will close out the season by facing Idaho, at home on Tuesday, Apr. 12, at 3:00 p.m.
