Ogden, Utah – Eastern Washington University Women's Basketball senior Melissa Williams has been named co-Big Sky Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday, Feb. 23.
It is the second weekly honor for Williams in her career. She shared this week's award with Idaho's Stacey Barr.
Williams was simply dominant in Eastern's convincing 21-point win over Southern Utah and 31-point triumph over Northern Arizona this past week. She notched double-doubles in both games, averaging 14.5 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 70.0 percent from the field.
It took her just 23 minutes to record a double-double against Southern Utah last Thursday, Feb. 19, notching 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting while pulling down 10 boards.
Against Northern Arizona last Saturday, Feb. 21, she nearly had a double-double in the first half, registering 10 points and nine rebounds in 17 first-half minutes. She finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds, going 8-of-12 from the field.
She was the only player in the Big Sky to record double-doubles in both games this past week. She now has nine double-doubles on the year and is tied for first place in the conference in rebounding with an average of 9.3 boards per game.
The Eagles are back in action this Thursday, Feb. 26, against Montana State in Bozeman, Mont.
