Cheney, Wash. – Recent Eastern Washington University Women's Basketball alumna Melissa Williams has signed a contract to play professional basketball for evo New Basket Oberhausen in the German Damen Basketball Bundesliga.
Williams was a Second Team All-Big Sky selection as a senior during the 2014-15 season. She led the Big Sky Conference with an average of 9.5 rebounds per game and nearly averaged a double-double, pouring in an average of 10.4 points per game.
"I'm so excited to be able to start a new chapter of my life that is centered solely on basketball," Williams said. "I feel extremely blessed that I made it to this level and still cannot believe the number of fantastic places basketball has taken me. Realizing my childhood dream of being a professional athlete is actually happening is a very humbling experience and I cannot wait to get on the court with my new team."
A native of Camas, Wash., Williams earned four letters during her time at Eastern. She finished her career second all-time in rebounds with 832 and tied atop the career list with 122 games played.
Williams was a four-time Big Sky All-Academic Team honoree and was named one of EWU's Big Sky Scholar-Athletes of the Year last month.
"I am very excited for Melissa," said head coach Wendy Schuller. "This is an opportunity she has earned. Her ability to rebound, defend and score will make her a tremendous asset to her team, but I know they will also love her fantastic attitude and work ethic. Melissa carries on the tradition of Eagles playing professionally and I know she will proudly represent EWU."
