Cheney, Wash. - Off to a 3-1 start to its campaign, the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team will continue their season with a road trip to Austin, Texas, for the Lone Star Showcase. Starting Thursday, Nov. 26 against No. 19 Northwestern, the tournament continues through Friday, Nov. 27 against East Carolina, and ends on Saturday, Nov. 28 versus Creighton. All three games will tipoff at 3 p.m. PST.
Last week, the Eagles lost their first game of the season against Gonzaga (56-78), but finished off the week with a win against CSUN (70-59). Against the Bulldogs, sophomore Delaney Hodgins led the team in scoring with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, and added on four steals. Senior Hayley Hodgins was the only other player to reach double digits in scoring with 14 on 6-of-18 shooting.
In the win over CSUN, Delaney Hodgins continued her great play from the previous game, leading the team with a career high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, with seven rebounds. Junior Tisha Phillips also had one of the best games of her career with 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Eastern will be facing some high powered offenses, with its three opponents combining for an average of 81.5 points per game, and 47.9 percent shooting from the field. The week begins with Northwestern, who is averaging 82.3 points per game with a +33.3 scoring margin, and 15.7 steals per game. The Wildcats are 3-0 to start the year, with their most recent win coming against Western Michigan 86-62. Junior Nia Coffey leads their team with 21 points per game, and right behind her is junior Ashley Deary with 19.3 points per game on 65.7% shooting.
East Carolina is currently holds a 5-0 record, averaging 78.2 points per game, while owning a +22.6 scoring margin. Their last game was a win at Delaware 68-58. Leading their team in scoring and rebounding is senior Jada Payne with 22 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.
Creighton is 2-1 on the season, having recently lost to Drake 81-72 on Tuesday. Before Tuesday's game, they were averaging 84 points per game, and were shooting 45.8 percent from three point range as a team. Leading their team in scoring is sophomore Sydney Lamberty with 15.5 points per game.
