Cheney, Wash. - The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team will travel to play Big Sky Conference opponent Idaho this Saturday, Jan. 9, at 2:00 p.m. PST.
The Eagles sit tied atop the league standings with a perfect 2-0 record after wins against Northern Colorado, 59-55, on Thursday, Dec. 31, and North Dakota, 60-57, on Saturday, Jan.2. Sophomore Delaney Hodgins was a key part of the team's recent victories, leading the team in scoring across the two games. Against Northern Colorado she scored a career high 22 points while grabbing nine rebounds, and against North Dakota she recorded her third double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and tallying a career high 14 rebounds.
Senior Hayley Hodgins is currently second in the Big Sky in scoring with an average of 19.2 points per game. Delaney Hodgins ranks fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game, and ranks 10 in rebounds, averaging 6.9 rebounds per game.
Idaho is 10-4 on the season, and is also 2-0 in conference play after last weekend. The Vandals' last game was a 66-56 win against Northern Colorado. The three ball is a major part of Idaho's offense, shooting 33.8 percent, and making 9.9 three-pointers per game. This has helped the Vandals to an average of 71.7 points per game with a +11.9 scoring margin. They also control the ball well, averaging 12.6 turnovers per game with a +3.6 turnover margin. Sophomore Geraldine McCorkell leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game, while shooting 41.6 percent from the field. On the defensive side of the ball, senior Ali Forde leads the team in rebounds with 7.5 per game, and blocks with 2.46 per game.
