@EWUSoccer Returns Home With Two Wins, Hosts CSU Bakersfield Friday

Cheney, Wash. – Off to its best start in school history, the Eastern Washington University soccer team will play its first home game of the 2015 regular season this Friday, Aug. 28, against CSU Bakersfield at 4 p.m.

Friday's game will be the third game of Eastern's 2015 season, with a fourth match against UC Davis in Portland, Ore., on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m.

The Eagles are a coming off of two road wins during their first week of play, making it the first time in Eagle history that the team has secured victories in its first two matches of the season. Their season opener against UTEP was a successful 2-1 outing, where Eastern saw goals from sophomore Chloe Williams during the 33rd minute and freshman Devan Talley in the 81st minute.

EWU's match against New Mexico State last Sunday was a fight to the end, with a goal early on by freshman Emily Bringgold in the 31st minute, and a returned goal from NMSU in the 53rd minute. The 1-1 score at the end of the match would lead to double overtime and a game winner shot in the 108th minute by senior Tasha Luu to lead the Eagles to yet another victory. This victory was another record breaker, being the first time Eastern has won in double overtime since 2002.

The Eagles are hoping to carry forth the young team's tenacity, facing CSU Bakersfield for the fifth time in program history. The last time that the teams met, Eastern ran away with a 3-0 victory, outshooting the Roadrunners 14-8. Goals from Cassie Black and returning players sophomore Savannah Hoekstra and junior Paige Gallaway led the Eagles to their 3-0 victory against the Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners have also come off a successful start, recently demolishing Humboldt State in their first match of the season with a 4-0 victory.

The Eagles will then take the road to Portland to face UC Davis on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m. The two teams last met back in 2009.

The Aggies have started their season with a 2-0 home loss against Santa Clara. Their second game of the season is scheduled for Aug. 24 at 3 p.m. PT against Sacramento State.
