Cheney, Wash. – After a home win on Monday, Sept. 7, the Eastern Washington University soccer team will head to the Midwest to play three away matches.
The Eagle will start their trip to the Midwest in Indiana to take on the Valparaiso Crusaders this Friday Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Eastern continues their trip with games on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 5:00 p.m. against Green Bay and UIC, respectively.
In their recent triumph against local foe Idaho, Eastern continued to show its progress into an experienced Division I team, topping the Vandals 2-1. During the first half of the match, Eastern recorded back-to-back goals, putting them in the lead 2-0.
The Eagles' first goal was a team effort off of a free kick near the box. Freshman Allison Raniere touched the ball to freshman Devan Talley who played a through ball to sophomore Chloe Williams. Williams weaved through the defense and shot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net, scoring Eastern's first goal of the match at the 23rd minute.
Just one minute later, Williams sent a through ball past the Vandal defensive line to sophomore Delaney Romero who faced the keeper one-on-one. Romero shot the ball into the upper left corner of the goal and scored Eastern's second goal of the match.
Coming into their next three away games, the Eagles own a better season record of 3-1-1 compared to all three of their next opponents. Valparaiso holds a current season record of 2-2-1, Green Bay 1-4-0, and UIC 2-4-0.
