@EWUSoccer Hosts Sacramento State, Portland State in Big Sky Home Openers

Cheney, Wash. – After two more road wins last week, the Eastern Washington University soccer team will host its next two Big Sky conference matches against Sacramento State on Friday, Oct. 2, and Portland State on Sunday, Oct. 4. Eastern's home opener against the Hornets on Friday will kick off at 3:00 p.m., while Sunday's match against the Vikings will kick off at 1:00 p.m.

Last week's victories against Weber State and Idaho State gave the Eagles a perfect 2-0 record in Big Sky Conference play. This is the first time in program history that Eastern has completed a perfect 2-0 start since 2009. These last two road wins extend Eastern's winning streak to six straight this season.

During its match against Weber State last Friday, Eastern saw an early goal from freshman Allison Raniere in the 11th minute to put them ahead of the Wildcats. Weber State answered back quickly with a goal in the 28th minute of the match. Going into the second half of the game, the teams remained tied until freshman Jenny Chavez fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net, scoring the game winning goal for Eastern in the 58th minute.

Last Sunday's match against Idaho State proved to be another close match. The Eagles held one-goal advantages twice during the match, the first goal coming from freshman Allison Raniere in the ninth minute of play and again from Chavez in the 57th minute of play. ISU was able to respond each time and tied the score 2-2. With three minutes left to play, sophomore Chloe Williams beat two defenders and fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net, surpassing the keeper and scoring the game winning goal.

Coming into this weekend's matches, the Eagles should see more close matchups. Currently tied for first in the Big Sky Conference standings with the Hornets, the visiting California team holds a 2-0 Big Sky Conference record. The Vikings hold a 1-1 record.
