Cheney, Wash. – Hoping to close out the 2015 regular season on a high note, the Eastern Washington University women's tennis team is preparing to face off against Montana State and Montana at home for the final two games of the year on Saturday, Apr. 11, at 3:00 p.m., and Sunday, Apr. 12, at 2:00 p.m., respectively.
Due to senior Moira Hedberg redshirting the 2015 season, the Eagles will not honor any seniors for the final game of the year.
After picking up a victory over Southern Utah, Eastern (5-14) has faced a series of tough matches, falling in its most recent matches despite challenging its opponents at every position. In the previous four games, standout freshman Janaya Smith has picked up three singles wins, defeating several impressive players from SUU, Northern Arizona, and UNLV.
In addition to Smith, Sophomores Dani Young, Katrina Domingo, Carolina Lopez, and Erin Blessing, along with freshman Rachel Swindell, have all played stellar tennis, nearly pulling off numerous wins after forcing many matches to three-sets.
Eastern will look to earn its first victory over the Grizzlies in six years after picking up a 4-3 win in Cheney, Wash., back on Feb. 27, 2009. Against MSU, EWU will hope to find its first win in program history over the Bobcats.
